GridCode is a device-free multi-factor authentication service, ideal for front-line workers, especially when a company cannot provide a mobile device for the users and the users cannot or will not use their personal device for MFA.

When MFA is required during authentication through Entra ID SSO the user will be prompted to provide codes from their grid or to use the camera on their device (if available) to scan the QR code. One of the four verification words are presented to the user so they can verify against their card to reduce the risk of phishing.

The following are customizable by the organization:

• The size of the grid (from 5×5 to 10×10)
• The size of each code (2 to 6 characters)
• Alphanumeric or numeric codes
• How many codes are required during login (2 to 6)
